Cat's Logs - Week 27 Sunday, July 11, 1999Speaking of cultural differences, as I mentioned yesterday, we cats consider every feline to be very important.
We really don't understand the divisions humans are always making between themselves. Sure, some cats are orange and others are black and white (while I admit the latter coloring is more attractive, it does not make me more important--though my sparkling personality does draw attention). Some cats have short hair and others are blessed with long luxuriant coats. But all cats are very important and deserving of respect, love, food, water and shelter. Focus on love, not differences. Monday, July 12, 1999I've heard that some people misunderstood my last column.
I did not say all humans hate other humans. In fact there are a few that not only respect and support their own species, but help felines out when they're in need. Sometimes it's in a small way, like my attendant taking me in when I was between gigs and offering me a comfortable home. Others open shelters, providing a safe haven for many felines (and sometimes other animals) until proper homes are available. This is the kind of thing everyone can get involved in. I don't know of a city that does not have many felines roaming around in need of better quarters. Why not visit your local shelter today ... You might end up as lucky as GlennaJo! Sometimes I wish I weren't so darn cute.
GlennaJo says I'm irresistible and uses that as an excuse for disgusting practices like kissing me and patting me on the head in the middle of my nap. Seems to me a more 'propriate response to excellence would be to show some respect for personal space. Cats, you know, are the original sun worshippers.
Surfers and beach bunnies are merely following in our pawprints. And, in typical human fashion, they not only think they created the sport, but have added a bunch of extra rules like:
Felines, of course, know that sunshine is free and found everywhere. It fills our homes and illuminates our activities. There's no such thing as poor sunlight. Thursday, July 15, 1999During the next few days, I'll be sharing the fine art of feline sun worship.
As shown in the illustration, cats like humans shift position to ensure complete sun coverage. Our sun bathing, however, is a more subtle and personal sport, since our exquisite natural coloring isn't affected by the process. This has the added advantage of eliminating the competitive element ... except in homes with more square inches of feline than sunshine. Friday, July 16, 1999Today's illustration, which GlennaJo is using despite my strenuous objections, shows how sunshine increases the importance of excellent grooming.
As I've covered in great detail in other parts of this journal, my attendant is hopelessly grooming challenged. The picture to the left clearly demonstrates this. But the image does show how each magnificent feline hair is illuminated and emphasized by strong sunlight. Beauty is in the eye of anyone beholding me. Saturday, July 17, 1999One of the problems with sunshine is that it's always moving.
As the Sun revolves around the Earth and the Earth revolves around me, the light scheme is constantly shifting. What? According to your so-called science the Earth revolves around the Sun? Ridiculous! Typical of humans to think their science is the only science. But right here in the Cat's Guide to the Heavens it says ... Where's my name? The Earth revolves around ... Guess all scientists are confused regardless of species. |
