Cat's Logs - Week 20 Sunday, May 23, 1999I think GlennaJo's got a new valuable corporate asset.
It's the annual PC cleanup, and the technician has been around a lot this weekend. He's doing something called creating a clean system and then imaging, but I don't understand why it's taking so long. When GlennaJo cleans and images me, it hurts during the brushing and I don't like that flash in my eyes, but it only takes a few minutes. Of course, the 'puter isn't nearly as photogenic is I am, which may be why it takes so long to get it ready for the photoshoot. Monday, May 24, 1999I've been invaded!
That PC technician was here all three days this weekend. He was working on the PCs, so GlennaJo was nervous about how she was going to keep her business running. He's in the den, she's pacing, the TV's blaring even louder than usual, and he's talking. To escape the bedlam, I slept behind the couch most of the time, which worried GlennaJo. Apparently she feels a cat should be excited to have additional human company. I would much rather be unseen and not heard. It has come to my attention that some of you young cats out there greet your attendants enthusiastically when they return from working to support you.
Take it from a seasoned veteran, the big rewards come to those who play it cool. When you run to the door to greet her, she thinks, "Prince likes me." When you make her come to you, she thinks, "I really like Prince." You may be wondering what to do if she doesn't come to you. This is very unlikely since you, as a feline, are irresistible. But if your attendant doesn't cooperate, simply hide for the rest of the evening. The next day, sleep in your usual place and stay put when she comes home. At worst she'll be really glad to see you. Usually, however, it's a liver treat moment. Wednesday, May 26, 1999The invasion is over.
The noise level is down and there are no strangers in my territory. GlennaJo's attention is completely focused on relinking her databases and evaluating her site stats, so it's safe to sit on the couch again. Sure, she pats me, pokes me and gives me hugs from time to time, but I have come to tolerate that knowing it's a natural human reaction to my irresistibly lovable self. You know you're really in charge when you can sleep in peace. Thursday, May 27, 1999They say grooming can be a good experience, strengthening the bond between cat and attendant. I find that very hard to believe.
Personally, my fondness for GlennaJo increases with each hour she allows me to sleep in peace. Maybe it's a prince and the pea thing, but my skin is very sensitive--in a macho kind of way. News flash: Brushing pulls a cat's hair and when there are mats it pulls mine out in clumps. Ever ready to experiment on me, GlennaJo tries to minimize this by pulling the mats apart with her fingers before brushing. Mz. Veldt likes this and puts her mats under GlennaJo's hand to get them out. I bite. Good grooming is never having to say I'm sore. The grooming nightmare continues.
GlennaJo says my coat's in pretty good shape. Works for me! Thanks for the grooming. Think I'm done now. Will you put that brush away, already? Talk about psychological torture, the brush is kept right on the back of the couch, handy for use at a moment's notice. Of course, so are my teeth. Typical evening around here lately: A large, handsome cat is sleeping on the couch, a picture of peace and happiness. All of a sudden a huge hand reaches out and pokes or pats him. The hand pauses then begins to search among the hairs. Another hand, just as big as the first, joins it. They each grasp adjacent clumps of hair and pull in opposite directions. A giant brush leaps into one of the hands... I should write horror movies. Saturday, May 29, 1999I had a very interesting morning in the window today.
I would have caught 2 or 3 birds resting on the tree outside the window if it weren't for that darn pane of glass. What's the big idea of glass windows, anyway? They keep out interesting prey like bugs, rodents and small mammals, and also block lots of interesting scents. Well, yeah, I guess they allow me to sit only a few inches from birds because they feel safe and can't detect my scent. Plus it's kind of nice to be able to watch the rain from a warm dry place. My window, guess I'll keep it. |
