Cat's Log Wednesday, January 19, 2000

I had a harrowing experience last night.

The only part of me that escaped unsquished.

After a typical boring evening, GlennaJo and I retired to bed. As usual, she was kicking and turning for the first hour, so I kept my distance. But it's cold in here at night, so I rolled over close to GlennaJo's huge, snoring, but warm body. After a few minutes, she rolled away a little bit, so I snuggled up next to her warm side again.

Once more, she rolled away a little and a purely scientific curiosity got the better of me. Would she roll, bit by bit, completely off the bed? My extensive studies of human behavior have never addressed this fascinating question, so I decided to do my own experiment.

Three times the ritual was repeated, until GlennaJo was on the very verge of a trip to the floor. Bravely, I moved myself into position and indeed she did react...by rolling to the edge of the bed, half-waking and rolling back the other way. Right on top of me!

The advance of science sometimes requires sacrifice.
